A 77-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning when she was hit by a truck in Hadera.

Emergency medical services were called to Galilee Street in the coastal city to find the woman trapped under the front of the truck that struck her. She had no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Magen David Adom emergency ambulance service said medics examined her and found she had suffered severe wounds from the impact.

The woman was not immediately identified.

The Central Bureau of Statistics in Israel reported in March that while overall traffic casualties have declined over the last year by 21.7 percent, fatalities from such accidents have risen by 11.1%. In the month of March alone, 30 people were killed in car accidents in Israel.
