Prison officer’s car bombed outside her home

No injuries in attack on vehicle parked on Netanya street; incident seen as a warning message to commander of wing at Rimonim Prison, where crime family members are doing time

A bomb caused damage to a prison officer’s car as it was parked outside her home in the coastal city of Netanya early Monday morning, the Israel Prisons Service said.

There were no injuries in the attack, although the explosion caused significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

Prison officials said they viewed the attack as a warning message, speculating it was an underworld threat.

The officer commands a wing of the Rimonim prison which houses several senior figures in local crime families.

She had received threats in the past which were reported to the police.

The small bomb, placed under the forward section of the car, apparently went off some time during the night. The officer only noticed the damage when she left her home in the morning and approached the vehicle, according to Hebrew media sources.

Police opened an investigation into the incident along with Prison Service security officials.

Car bombings have become a trademark assassination method among underworld crime syndicates in Israel.
