Police closed the case of an alleged rape of a 5-year-old girl in the ultra-Orthodox city of Modiin Illit on Sunday, after deciding the whole thing was “fabricated” by a kindergarten supervisor.

Authorities were considering filing charges against the former key witness for submitting a false report and interfering with police work, Walla News reported.

While that case was closed, other possible cases of sexual abuse surfaced during the investigation and the police would continue to look into them, the Hebrew news site said.

At the beginning of February a kindergarten supervisor said she had found and cared for a child who had been abused, but she refused to cooperate with the police, saying she had taken a religious vow not to expose the victim’s identity.
