A 53-year-old woman who lives in Sderot was stabbed to death early Thursday morning. Police picked up her son, 29, as the suspect in the attack.
First responders were reportedly called to the scene by neighbors who heard screaming in the apartment.
“When we arrived at the scene we broke into the apartment,” said Magen David Adom paramedic Michael Kanter. “The woman was unconscious on the floor of the apartment with serious wounds on her body.
“We immediately began medical treatment, including stopping her wounds from bleeding and advanced and prolonged resuscitation, but her wounds were fatal and ultimately we had to pronounce her death,” he said.
Domestic violence complaints have risen during the coronavirus pandemic.

A report from the State Comptroller’s Office released last month found that inadequate funding and chaotic policies for identifying and dealing with domestic violence are hampering efforts to curb the issue.
Domestic violence is “a severe social problem common among all classes, cultures, and ages,” wrote State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman in a statement accompanying the report, which reviewed local authorities during 2020.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
