Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar has recently come under surveillance by a private investigation company owned by the father of former NBA player Omri Casspi, according to an unsourced report that aired Friday on Channel 12 news.

The snooping was identified by Sa’ar’s office shortly after the election campaign commenced in June. The minister’s associates used unidentifiable SIM cards to track down the culprits and found that the firm Casspi – Polygraph, Security Investigations and Consulting Ltd. was behind the surveillance, Channel 12 said.

The report stressed that the surveillance was carried out legally, without elaborating further.

The company in question is owned by Shimon Casspi, a Likud loyalist and father of the former NBA journeyman, who was also rumored to have considered running in this week’s Likud primaries.

Sa’ar was a longtime member of Likud before leaving the party in 2020 over disagreements with its chairman Benjamin Netanyahu. His New Hope party was instrumental in establishing the government last year that ousted Netanyahu from power after 11 years. Sa’ar has come under relentless attack from Likud supporters since he left the party.
