Parts of the main highway connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv were closed for some four hours on Tuesday after a truck hauling a bulldozer struck an overpass and became stuck.

The crash halted traffic for several hours on the Tel Aviv-bound side of Route 1, near Ben Gurion Airport.

There were no reports of injuries.

The highway was later reopened after rescue services managed to extract the vehicles, though heavy traffic was expected to continue for several hours.

Engineers from Netivei Yisrael – the National Transport Infrastructure Company told Channel 13 the truck driver committed various traffic violations, causing the accident.

The scene of the accident was not unfamiliar to rescue services. In August 2017, there were three incidents of trucks carrying heavy machinery colliding with overpasses within the span of a week.
