Jesse Eisenberg, who earned an Oscar nomination for his Mark Zuckerberg-inspired starring role in “The Social Network,” is refusing to let Operation Protective Edge ruin his first visit to Israel.

The actor, who will appear as Lex Luthor in the upcoming “Batman Versus Superman” superflick, alongside Israeli actress Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, appeared in Tel Aviv last weekend at a Hebrew-language version of the play “The Revisionist.”

Eisenberg starred alongside Vanessa Redgrave in the original US version of that play, and following the Tel Aviv production, he joined in a Q&A on stage.

“If there was any sign that I would be endangered somehow, I would have hesitated to come, but that wasn’t the case,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted Eisenberg as saying. “Israel is a wonderful country, and it is an unfortunate time, of course, for people living here, but for me this has been a very good week.”

Eisenberg told the audience he plans to fit in a few day trips to Jerusalem and the north during his time, as well.

“Batman Versus Superman” is due to hit screens in 2016.
