TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s civil aviation spokesman says an American is receiving medical treatment in Tehran after his plane was diverted to the Iranian capital when he suffered a heart attack on a flight from Dubai to Seattle.
Abbas Mosayebi says the 52-year-old man was taken to a Tehran hospital after an emergency landing Friday by the Emirates airline flight.
Iran and the US have no diplomatic relations, but there are occasional humanitarian exchanges. In the past, US Navy vessels have assisted Iranian sailors in distress.
Mosayebi did not release the man’s name Saturday. Dubai-based Emirates had no immediate comment.
