19 detained in explosives ring bust

Accident in lab could have blown up entire building, police say

Police arrested 19 individuals Tuesday on suspicion of running a ring for production and sale of explosives out of laboratories set up in residential buildings in Holon and Petah Tikva.

Among those arrested in the raid were a father and son who allegedly assembled the explosives, and a 16-year-old boy suspected of having served as a courier.

Police said the ring produced sophisticated explosive devices, adding that an accident in one of the laboratories could have led to the collapse of the entire building.

The ring was suspected of selling the explosives to criminal organizations.
