A six-year-old boy died Thursday after being locked for several hours in a car in a Bedouin community near to Beersheba in the south of the country.
Family members who found the boy in the afternoon brought him to the Nevatim Junction where they met up with a Magen David Adom ambulance crew who tried to resuscitate him.
Medics rushed the boy to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba where he was admitted in a critical condition. He was pronounced dead later in the evening.
MDA medic Yasser Abu Rejila said when the ambulance crew first saw the boy he was unconscious, without a pulse, not breathing, and with serious heat injuries to his body.
Hebrew media reported that he was found by family members in the trunk of his parents car.

The boy’s mother said that they had gone shopping around noon and after returning had left the trunk open. She said the boy apparently climbed into the trunk and become locked inside.
Police arrived at the hospital and at the Bedouin community to investigate the incident.
Israel has been experiencing hot weather for the past few weeks with temperatures in the Beersheba area on Thursday climbing to around 35°C (95°F).
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
