A four-year-old girl was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, apparently of dehydration, after suffering from two days of illness that caused her vomiting and diarrhea.
Magen David Adom paramedics who were called to an apartment in the southern city of Kiryat Gat found the girl unconscious and tried to resuscitate her. She was taken by ambulance to Barzilai Medical Center in nearby Ashkelon but was declared dead on arrival.
An initial investigation found that she had been suffering from diarrhea and vomiting during the night. Her parents had taken her to a medical center, where she was given fluids and a pill, and then sent home. When her condition deteriorated further the parents called the ambulance.
“A number of checks were done to clarify the illness she was suffering from,” the hospital said in a statement. “Prolonged additional efforts at resuscitation, to our regret, did not bring the girl back to life.”
