Groom seriously injured while dancing at his wedding

A wedding in the city of Modiin in central Israel took a tragic turn on Sunday, after the newlywed groom was seriously injured while celebrating with his friends.

According to the Ynet news site, the 34-year-old man was picked up by his friends while dancing and fell from a height of about three meters (10 feet).

He was taken to Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan in serious condition with a significant head injury, Magen David Adom paramedic Itay Peretz said.

“When we got there we saw an unconscious man with a head injury. We were told that he had fallen from a height of roughly three meters,” Peretz said. “We treated him at the scene and evacuated him to the hospital in serious but stable condition.”

Rabbi Yehuda Meislik, a close associate of the groom, described the accident.

“They picked him up on a table and at some point he must have lost his balance and fell on the back of his head,” he told Ynet. “He lost consciousness immediately.”

The rabbi said a soundman for the band who happened to be a senior MDA medic provided the groom with initial life-saving treatment.

“He saved his life,” Meislik said, noting that it took about 20 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.

The rabbi described the groom as a “charming guy” and a “successful accountant who waited a long time to get married” and said the newlywed bride, who accompanied her husband to the hospital, was a “hero.”

According to Dr. Zion Zibly from Sheba Medical Center, the groom was diagnosed upon arrival as suffering from a severe traumatic brain injury.

“He has been sedated and connected to a respirator,” he said.
