An incarcerated member of the Hamas terrorist organization was sentenced to two more years in prison this week for stabbing a guard with a screwdriver in February.
Footage of the attack, which occurred on February 1, was released by the Israel Prison Service on Sunday as the court handed down its decision.
In the video, the prison guard can be seen leading the inmate, Khaled Silawi, toward a door to an exercise room in Nafha prison in southern Israel.
Silawi suddenly stops and reaches into his sock, pulling out a screwdriver that he’d hidden there. As the guard opens a door, Silawi rushes at him with the weapon and stabs him multiple times in the chest and upper body.
The two men grapple, until another guard comes running into the room and Silawi is tackled to the floor.
Silawi, who is from the Gaza Strip, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2013 for launching rockets and taking part in other attacks by the Hamas terror group against Israel.
The guard was injured, but survived the attack.
Assault charges were filed against Silawi following the attack, and on Sunday he received a sentence of two additional years in prison.
