Hiker killed in fall off Judean Desert cliff

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead Tuesday after falling off a 50-meter (164-foot) cliff during a hike in the Judean Desert.

IDF rescue forces retrieved the man’s body from Wadi Og by helicopter.

Earlier Tuesday, a woman suffering from diabetes called rescue forces to evacuate her from Wadi Qelt, also in the Judean Desert, probably due to a drop in her blood-sugar rate.

Rescue forces were making their way to the woman by helicopter.

Also in Wadi Qelt, rescue forces evacuated a 51-year-old woman who fell and broke her leg while hiking.

The woman was rushed to the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem’s Mount Scopus neighborhood for emergency treatment.

Overnight, a group of travelers stranded in Wadi Tur, near the Dead Sea, were evacuated unharmed by rescue forces.

In the Golan Heights, a woman who fell Tuesday and injured her leg while hiking in Wadi Zavitan was evacuated by a rescue crew to a nearby hospital.

In a separate incident, a medical team treated a 70-year-old man who lost consciousness during a hike in the nearby Yehudiya Nature Reserve.

Over 200,000 Israelis set out Tuesday to the forests, parks and nature reserves of the Jewish National Fund, according to the JNF.
