Assad party cleans up in Syria parliamentary vote
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleSyria’s ruling Baath party and its allies win a majority of seats in last week’s parliamentary elections across government-held parts of the country, the national electoral commission announces.
In a widely expected victory in polls labeled a “farce” by Syria’s opposition, President Bashar Assad’s Baath movement and its allies — running under the “National Unity” coalition — win 200 of the parliament’s 250 seats.
A list of winners published by Syria’s national electoral commission includes every candidate on the 200-strong “National Unity” list, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.
