Bennett: Curriculum to teach entire Jewish experience

Education Minster Naftali Bennett says the new school curriculum will cover the history of both Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardi Jews, and not as separate subjects.

“We will not create separate paths but a common one; we will not see a new [focus on] Sephardi culture, but rather a full story that does not promote separation but unity,” Channel 10 quotes him as saying.

In a speech at Bar-Ilan University, Bennett says students from across Israel will visit the country’s development towns next year as part of efforts to integrate Mizrahi Jewish culture into the curriculum.

“In the coming school year we will mandate tours of the development towns in the Galilee and Negev,” he says.

“Israeli students will not only learn, but will also travel the full story of the people of Israel, as [learning through] experience is the best way,” he says. “Alongside [the kibbutzim of] Degania and Sde Boker, every student will also visit Yeruham, Dimona and Beit She’an.”
