Bill banning volunteers from foreign-funded groups gets boost
A powerful Knesset panel has given the green light to a bill banning groups that receive most of their funding from abroad from being able to pull volunteers from the pool of National Service draftees.
The Ministerial Committee for Legislation, which determines coalition backing for legislation, unanimously okays the measure, and it is expected to go to the Knesset for a preliminary reading on Wednesday, according to Hebrew media reports.
The bill, proposed by Likud MK Amir Ohana, is seen as targeting left-wing NGOs — particularly human rights group B’Tselem.
