Police set up special unit for Arab community

The Public Security Ministry and Israel Police are setting up a special department to deal with crime in the Arab community, the Maariv website rwports.

The department is set to be headed by Brigadier General Jamal Hakroush, who will receive a promotion to general with the appointment, making him the first Arab Muslim on the force to hold that rank.

The new national unit will deal with all issues related to the Arab community in Israel, as well as neighborhoods and villages in East Jerusalem.
