Tehran says 400 Iranians being sent back from US

Iran says around 400 Iranians who left the country and entered the United States are being deported by American authorities and sent back to Iran, including some who were there legally.

Foreign ministry consular affairs official Hossein Noushabadi tells the Tasnim news agency that an initial planeload of 120 deportees is expected to arrive in the next day or two, confirming a New York Times report.

He says most of the deportees entered the US illegally, largely through the Mexican border, though some had residency permits.

He adds that there have been talks over the issue for several months.
