Two arrested during protests at hospital holding hunger striker
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleTwo people have been arrested amid scuffles outside the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where a Palestinian detainee is being held after going on a hunger strike for over two months, police say.
A statement from police on Twitter said officers had deployed to the area to “keep the peace,” as protesters gathered outside the hospital.
According to Ynet, some 200 people are rallying in support of — as well as against — Mohammad Allaan, who is said to be in critical condition and is breathing with the help of a machine.
According to Ynet, five people from the group rallying against Allaan were detained.
A similar protest last week also turned violent.
