UN’s Mideast envoy to brief Security Council on Quartet report

The UN’s Middle East envoy, Nickolay Mladenov, is to brief the Security Council in the coming minutes on a long-awaited report on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Mladenov says on Twitter that he plans to discuss the report drawn up by the Quartet of Mideast peacemakers during a Security Council session at 10 a.m. New York time (5 p.m. Israel time).

The Quartet, which has been seeking to foster a two-state solution to the conflict, consists of the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia.

“The report is expected to expose the full extent of Israeli policies beyond settlements construction in the West Bank as well as the need for the Palestinians to stop incitement to violence,” says a source familiar with the report.
