A man died in a fire in a residential building in the central city of Rosh Ha’ayin on Tuesday, officials said.

The man had been trapped inside his apartment by the flames, and rescue teams found him dead as they were searching the building for casualties.

A first emergency call to report the fire was made to Magen David Adom at 8:40 p.m., the ambulance service said.

Medics arrived on the scene a few minutes later with a team of firefighters and saw fire coming out from the top floor of the three-story building.

When the rescue team managed to break into the apartment, they found the man, whose identity is still unknown, without signs of life, and pronounced him dead.

The fire in the building was later extinguished, Hebrew media reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
