Man killed, several hurt in Tel Aviv apartment fire

Moldovan worker dies as blaze causes heavy damage to home; police launch investigation into cause

A man died early Sunday morning and more than four others were hurt as a fire broke out in an apartment in Tel Aviv.

The dead man was identified by Hebrew media as a 40-year-old foreign worker from Moldova.

Medics took the four other casualties to Ichilov hospital in moderate condition after they suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Services said an unspecified number of other residents headed on their own to get medical attention. The fire was extinguished.

The incident occurred on the second floor or a seven-floor residential building on Ma’apilei Egoz Street at the southeastern edge of the city.

Police opened an investigation into the cause of the blaze, noting that the apartment suffered heavy damage.
