On September 1, 2024, the IDF announced the death and recovery of the body of Ori Danino from a Hamas tunnel in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the military, Danino was murdered alongside five other hostages by their captors not long before they were found. Below are initial reports of his capture and its aftermath:
Ori Danino, 25, was taken captive from the Supernova desert rave on October 7, where Hamas terrorists launched an attack, killing some 360 people at the party and taking at least 40 hostages to Gaza.
Danino and a friend each left the party in separate vehicles, filling the cars with as many people as possible to help them escape the Hamas killing spree.
At one point, Danino asked his friend for the phone number of people they had just met at the party, telling him that he was going to go back and save them. That was the last time his friend heard from him.
His fiancee, Liel, said she heard from Danino at 8:34 a.m., when she called. He told her he was driving like a psychopath and that they would speak later.
The three people that Danino turned around to save are known to have been taken hostage in Gaza.
Danino is from an ultra-Orthodox family in Jerusalem. He lives in Givat Zeev, just outside the capital. He’s engaged to be married this year.
