Joan Rivers’ doctor took a selfie as she prepared to perform an unauthorized biopsy on the comedian’s throat before she died of cardiac arrest, according to CNN, which quoted an anonymous source familiar with the Jewish actress’s death.

Rivers, 81, died earlier this month after suffering a heart attack during an endoscopy at a New York City clinic.

According to a series of reports by the American news outlet, Rivers’ ear, nose and throat doctor, Dr. Gwen Korovin, took a selfie with the anesthetized Rivers, then performed an unapproved biopsy on her vocal cords.

The alleged selfie has yet to surface.

Korovin was not authorized to operate at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic, CNN reported, and Rivers had reportedly not provided prior consent to undergo a biopsy.

The report said that coroners suspect Rivers’ vocal cords started swelling during the allegedly unapproved biopsy on August 29, stopping airflow to her lungs and triggering cardiac arrest. She died a week later, on September 4.
