Sirens sounded in the Gaza border towns of Yad Mordechai and Netiv Ha’asara shortly after noon on Friday, but there was no incoming rocket fire, and security forces said the alarm system had picked up gunfire inside Gaza.
The two communities are located near the northern border of the Gaza Strip.
The circumstances were initially unclear, and there were no reports of any rockets striking Israel or any explosions.
Shortly afterward, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it was a false alarm, in response to gunfire within the Gaza Strip.
