Border Police officers arrested a suspected member of the Hamas terror group in the West Bank on Saturday after finding a pistol hidden in his car.

Police said the man, a Nablus resident in his 20s, was arrested during a search of his vehicle at a checkpoint near the Palestinian town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian man raised the suspicion of officers after driving by the checkpoint several times, Army Radio reported.

He was taken in for further investigation, police said, where it was discovered that he was a member of Hamas. It was not immediate clear if he was planning to carry out an attack.
