Three killed in shootings in northern towns; toddler seriously wounded
Man killed, 4 injured in gunfire in Kaf Yasif; two young men gunned down in Isfiya, as violence continues to plague Arab communities
Three people were murdered in Arab and Druze towns Friday overnight, as the ongoing wave of violence in the Arab community showed no signs of abating.
In Kafr Yasif, northeast of Haifa, a man in his 30s was shot dead and four others were wounded in a shooting at a local store. Two of the wounded were in serious condition, including the murdered man’s three-year-old son. The gunman escaped the scene.
Meanwhile, two young men were gunned down Friday night in the Druze-majority village of Isfiya, also near Haifa.
Media reports indicated the shooting took place on a main road in the town, hundreds of meters from the local police station.
The two victims, aged 24 and 26, were rushed in critical condition to a local hospital but died of their injuries.
In this case, too, the gunman fled.
Police opened investigations into the two deadly attacks.
According to the Abraham Initiatives coexistence organization, which tracks crime statistics, 52 Arabs have been killed since the start of the year, outpacing 2023’s record-setting bloodletting. At this time last year, 46 people had been killed in annual crime.
Last year had been the bloodiest year on record in the Arab community, with 244 victims of violence, more than double the figure in 2022.
