‘Transparent’ coming to Israel in fourth season

New trailer shows Pfeffermans in Jerusalem, Dead Sea, West Bank; creator Jill Soloway said to indicate show will tackle politics

“Transparent,” the groundbreaking Amazon series about a dysfunctional Jewish family with a transgender parent, will be coming to Israel this fall in its fourth season.

Creator Jill Soloway has indicated the season will also be more overtly political, according to Deadline.

According to the trailer, released on Saturday, the season will accompany Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor) and family as they stroll through Jerusalem’s Old City, ride camels in the desert, float in the Dead Sea, and cross through a West Bank checkpoint.

The trailer also sees Tambor’s character kiss the ground at Ben Gurion Airport — and get knocked over by ultra-Orthodox Jews.

“Transparent” tells the story of Mort Pfefferman, played by Tambor, a retired college professor in his late 60s who publicly transitions from male to female, taking the name Maura. The web-only series is also about his Los Angeles Jewish family, the Pfeffermans, who are confused and struggling in their own ways.

The winner of two Golden Globes and eight Emmys, “Transparent” has been lauded for its depiction of both transgender and American Jewish identity.

The new season premieres on September 22.
