Two teens killed, 21 people injured, 4 badly, in 2 crashes on Route 6 highway

Two teen boys were killed and 21 people were injured — four of them seriously — in two separate crashes early Monday morning, on and adjacent to the Route 6 highway.

In the first accident, a car carrying six people hit a guardrail on the north-south highway, east of Hadera. Two teens aged 13 and 16 were killed. The car’s driver, 38, was moderately injured, as were two other teens aged 13 and 16 and an 8-year-old boy.

Medics rushed the injured to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera for treatment. Police believe the driver lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and crashed into the barrier.

In the second crash, two vans carrying passengers suffered a head-on collision on the Eyal Interchange bridge running over Route 6 near Kfar Saba, some 25 kilometers south of the first incident.

Seventeen people were hurt, four of them seriously, six moderately and seven mildly. The cause of that crash was not immediately clear.

After the crashes, sections of the highway were closed off.

Magen David Adom medics who responded to the scene of the first crash said: “The two teens suffered severe multiple injuries. We tried to save them… but unfortunately, they showed no signs of life and within a short time we were forced to declare them dead.”

On Saturday a woman was killed in a crash between two vehicles on Route 90 near the northern town of Kiryat Shmona. The collision apparently led the victim’s car to hit a security barrier on the roadside, crushing it.

The second car was found next to the road. Its driver, a 59-year-old man, suffered a chest injury and was taken in a light condition to Ziv Medical Center in Safed.

According to the latest data from the National Road Safety Authority, 346 people have been killed in 313 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year.
