Tel Aviv’s bewildered residents awoke to a thin funnel-like cloud extending from the sea to the sky Monday morning.
Social media was ablaze with images and videos of the waterspout, which, unlike a tornado, is relatively harmless.
The bizarre phenomenon came amid a day of wintry weather across Israel that saw rainstorms across the country and even hail.
A waterspout is caused by a mixture of weather patterns, differences in atmospheric pressure and changing sea temperatures, and can be common during fall and winter.
