A woman was killed by a train Thursday at a Tel Aviv train station after she fell onto the tracks, apparently collapsing due to a medical seizure.

The woman, 42, was hit by a train that came through the Tel Aviv Savidor Central station.

The Magen David Adom emergency service said in a statement that people who were on the platform told medics the woman lost her balance, apparently for medical reasons.

Ynet cited eyewitnesses as saying the woman went into spasms before she collapsed and fell onto the tracks.

Medical teams who arrived at the scene declared her dead. Some people at the station who saw the incident were treated for anxiety, MDA said.

Video posted to social media showed emergency responders descending underneath the train in an effort to reach the woman.

Police opened an investigation.

The incident was expected to cause delays in train service in the Tel Aviv area, Israel Railways said.
