Man killed in Ashdod drive-by

Victim, 25, was known to police; had survived previous assassination attempt

A man was killed in a suspected drive-by shooting in Ashdod Sunday night, police said.

The victim, 25, was shot several times outside a restaurant in the industrial zone of the coastal city.

Police said they suspect a person in a passing car carried out the killing.

The victim was known to police and had survived an assassination attempt two months earlier, Ynet reported. His name was not released.

A search for the shooter was underway.

Israeli officials have vowed to combat a seeming hike in underworld assassination attempts over the last several months, which have included car bombs, shootings and stabbings.
