A 95-year-old Tiberias resident was burned to death on Thursday afternoon when a fire broke out at his apartment.

Firefighters received a report around 4 p.m. that a house fire had broken out on Hashalom Street in the city and rushed to extinguish the blaze. Paramedics who arrived on the scene pronounced the man dead.

The nonagenarian’s caregiver stepped out of the apartment for a few minutes and returned to find the place ablaze, Channel 10 reported.

Tiberias police and fire opened an investigation into the incident in order to determine the cause of the fire.

The man’s body was transferred to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
