Bus struck by rock in northern Israel

A bus was struck by a single rock on a street in the town of Kiryat Tivon, in northern Israel southeast of Haifa, on Sunday afternoon.

One girl, 13, suffered shock as a result. No other casualties were reported. One of the bus’s windowpanes shattered.

The bus, line 87 operated by the Superbus company, connects Kiryat Tivon with Bethlehem Haglilit.

It was not clear who was behind the attack.

Rock attacks are near-daily occurrences in the West Bank but are rare in Israel proper.

Earlier Sunday, an Israeli man was seriously injured in a stabbing attack near the West Bank settlement of Alfei Menashe. The victim, 48, was able to drive to a nearby IDF checkpoint after he was attacked, near the Palestinian village of Nabi Ilyas, which lies along Route 55.

The man said he had stopped to shop in a stall inside the Palestinian village when he was jumped by two men who stabbed him. The assailants escaped the scene and security forces were combing the village and the surrounding area for them.

The attack came after earlier in the day Palestinians carried out two other attacks at West Bank settlements.

A Palestinian woman stabbed a security guard at the entrance to Betar Illit, lightly wounding a security guard, before she was shot and wounded. The attacker was identified as a Palestinian woman from Bethlehem, 22-year-old Halawa Alian. The IDF said she was treated by medics who then evacuated her to a hospital in Jerusalem.

That attack came less than two hours after a Palestinian car-ramming attack in the northern West Bank that left two Israelis seriously injured and two others lightly wounded. The driver was shot and killed.
