Car accidents claim 5 lives Tuesday, 3 from a single family
Head-on collision on Route 31 near Hura comes exactly one year after a similar accident at the site killed eight Bedouin women

Five people were killed late Tuesday in three deadly traffic accidents, three of them members of a single family.
At Shoket Junction northeast of Beersheba, a head-on collision between two cars left three members of the Abu Al-Kai’an family, from the nearby Bedouin village of Hura, dead and three others moderately to seriously wounded.
The road was closed in both directions late Tuesday, as the force of the collision sent car parts from both vehicles flying across both sides of the road.
The three were pronounced dead on the scene by Magen David Adom paramedics. The three injured were taken in MDA ambulances to Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center.
The accident took place on Route 31 between Laqiya and Hura, a famously dangerous stretch of road. The road safety advocacy group Or Yarok records 76 people killed and 122 seriously hurt in 465 accidents on the road over the past decade, Israel Hayom reported.
Tuesday’s accident came exactly one year exactly after a similar collision on the same stretch of road killed eight women from nearby Bedouin villages.

In Beersheba itself, a 40-year-old man crashed his car and died after losing consciousness at the wheel, police said.
In Gedera, a pedestrian was run over and killed by a taxi, bringing the number of dead on Israel roads Tuesday to five.
