LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg — Israel’s hosting of the European Short-Course Swimming Championships has been moved from January to December next year.
The European swimming federation, known by its French initials LEN, said Wednesday its policy-making bureau voted on the switch of dates and venue to avoid a “quite overloaded” sports calendar in January.
The annual event was last held in December 2013 and will now next be staged December 2-6, 2015 in Herzliya.
The LEN said Israel’s swimming federation had already requested moving the event from Netanya, which was scheduled to host from January 15-18.
The European body made no mention in a news release of Israel’s military conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
