Fisherman finds mortar shell in Yarkon River
Police sappers destroy ordnance after man pulls it out of the water with his fishing rod
Police sappers on Sunday destroyed a mortar shell found by a man fishing in the Yarkon River.
In a statement, police said that the man was fishing Saturday at a tributary of the Yarkon between the central Israel cities of Kfar Saba and Petah Tikva, when he pulled the shell out of the water with his fishing rod.
After the man set it back into the water and contacted police, officers were sent to guard the mortar shell around the clock until it could be destroyed.
Police sappers located the shell on Sunday with the help of an IDF unit and then destroyed it, police said.
There was no immediate word on the source of the shell.
