For second time in two days, child left in hot car dies

A 18-month-old girl died after being left inside a car for five hours on Monday, the second such incident in as many days.

An emergency medical team arrived on the scene after a pedestrian discovered the baby, who had been left in a vehicle in the West Bank settlement of Dolev, at around 1:15 p.m. The baby, who was found without a pulse, was revived by the paramedics and rushed in critical condition to a hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation showed that the father had forgotten the child in the vehicle.

Temperatures on Monday in the area were around 84° Fahrenheit (29° Celsius) at the time, according to the Meteotech weather service.

On Sunday, a 5-month-old baby died after being left in a car for several hours in Shiloh, also in the West Bank. Paramedics pronounced the infant dead at the scene.

Initial reports indicated that the father, who worked the overnight shift as a security guard, apparently forgot about the baby after dropping his older daughter at her day care. He then went home and slept for seven hours, and only when he awoke did he remember the infant.

At the beginning of the month a 9-month-old girl died after she was left in a parked car in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan.

The initial police investigation revealed that the father forgot to take his baby to daycare after dropping her siblings off at their daily activities.
