Israeli news doc on Ukraine war nominated for International Emmy
Itai Anghel’s broadcast on Keshet’s investigative news show ‘Uvda’ receives nod, as does Al Jazeera coverage of the death of Shireen Abu Akleh

The Israeli investigative news show “Uvda” was nominated for an International Emmy award on Tuesday for a broadcast last year about the Ukraine war.
Investigative reporter Itai Anghel and his photographer Eddie Gerald received a nod in the current affairs category for “Last Stop Before Kyiv,” which aired in April 2022 on Keshet.
Anghel, a veteran war correspondent who has reported from conflicts in Rwanda, Kosovo, Iraq, Syria and more, spent several weeks in Ukraine in the early days following Russia’s invasion.
“Uvda” will be competing for the prize alongside documentaries from three other broadcasters — two of which are also about the war in Ukraine — from the UK, Brazil and Turkey.
In the news category, Qatar’s Al Jazeera received a nomination for its reporting on the death of Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist who was shot dead during an IDF raidlast May.
Abu Akleh, who worked for Al Jazeera, was killed during clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen while covering a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank. While the Israeli army acknowledged that the bullet that killed her was “in very high likelihood” shot from an IDF gun, it has firmly rejected allegations that the veteran journalist was deliberately targeted.
The awards ceremony is slated to take place next month in New York. The nominations for International Emmys in scripted and dramatic categories are announced and awarded separately.
