Royal blood was no barrier to Jordan’s heir apparent having a bucket of water tipped over his head by fellow pilots.

Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah ll, 23, the son and heir apparent of Jordan’s King Abdullah, had just finished his first solo helicopter flight when the traditional “celebration” hit him from behind.

The prince, a second lieutenant in the Jordanian army, took the cold shower in good spirits.

Hussein ll has an international history degree from Georgetown University and, like his father and grandfather before him, studied at the UK’s prestigious Sandhurst military academy, from which he graduated in September.

Three years ago, Prince Hussein became the youngest person in history to chair a UN Security Council debate.

The debate focused on the role of youth in countering violent extremism and was held during Jordan’s month-long presidency of the 15-member council.

With his public responsibilities growing, he delivered the welcoming speech last May for a meeting of the World Economic Forum on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea and in September he gave a speech on Jordan’s behalf at the UN General Assembly.
