American comedy legend Jerry Lewis dies aged 91

American Jewish entertainer Jerry Lewis, , whose slapstick comedies like “The Nutty Professor” endeared him to millions, died aged 91, according to reports in US media.

One of the most popular comic actors of the 1950s and ’60s, Lewis perfected the role of the quirky clown but also won acclaim as a writer, actor and philanthropist in a career spanning six decades.

His longtime partnership with Dean Martin saw the pair stair in over a dozen movies together and achieve huge box office success.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Lewis was found dead in his home this morning.
