German FM rearranges schedule for funeral
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleSharon’s funeral forced German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to make significant changes to his schedule.
During his first visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories, which was planned weeks in advance, he was scheduled to meet with Peres, Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and opposition leader Isaac Herzog, in addition to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
But since Steinmeier, who arrived in Israel last night, will represent Berlin at the state memorial ceremony, which just commenced at the Knesset, and at the funeral at the Sycamore Farm this afternoon, almost all of his appointments were canceled; he will meet only Liberman and Abbas.
