Hamas is not preventing Palestinian protesters from approaching the border fence with Israel. This denies earlier reports, mainly from the Palestinian Authority, that such a directive was handed down.
The organization wishes, in fact, to allow Palestinian protests in solidarity with the Palestinians in the West Bank without involving the military wing of Hamas in another confrontation with Israel, according to a report in the Hebrew paper Haaretz.
Deputy head of the diplomatic bureau of the Gaza terror group, Moussa Abu Marzouk, calls to prevent launching rockets at Israel. He says that this will “move the campaign to the battlefield and hold back the popular intifada.”
Other voices in the Gaza Strip, according to Haaretz, are saying no one should come close to the border fence, since this is a “suicide” move with no benefit.
