President Isaac Herzog speaks by phone with Bahrain’s King Hamad Al Khalifa. King Hamad initiated the phone call, The Times of Israel has learned.

It is notable that Bahrain has been attacked daily by Iran since tensions with the US escalated earlier this month, and made the decision to initiate as well as publicize a call with Israel’s head of state while under threat from the Islamic Republic.

The two leaders discuss “international and regional developments, as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries within the framework of the Abraham Accords, in a way that contributes to security, stability, and prosperity in the region,” according to the Bahraini readout.

“Bahrain is an important country in the Middle East, and I congratulated the king on his bold leadership and vision for the region,” says Herzog.

Bahrain has come under daily missile and drone fire from Iran in recent weeks.

Herzog visited Bahrain in December 2022.
