IDF probe finds Beit Shemesh bomb shelter hit in deadly missile strike was up to code

An IDF investigation into yesterday’s deadly ballistic missile impact in Beit Shemesh has determined that the bomb shelter hit in the strike was up to safety standards.

According to the Home Front Command investigation, the missile with an estimated 500-kilogram warhead obliterated a synagogue building and penetrated a public bomb shelter beneath it, where people had been sheltering.

Among the nine people killed in the strike, some were not inside the bomb shelter but rather in the surrounding area, according to the military.

The Home Front Command investigation found that most people in the shelter at the time of the strike survived, despite the missile causing extensive damage to the bunker.

The Israeli Air Force is still investigating the failure by air defense systems to intercept the missile.
