Israel moves from mourning to joy as Independence Day gets underway
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIsrael ends its Memorial Day and moves onto the celebrations of Yom Haatzmaut (independence day) with a ceremony at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The ceremony includes the lighting of torches, lit by a selection of Israelis who are seen to have made an outstanding contribution to society.
Cities and towns across Israel traditionally mark the country’s birthday with street parties and concerts on the night of the celebration, while tomorrow is a day usually given over to barbecues.
