The Knesset advances a bill to delay Israel’s nationwide municipal elections by three months, from October 31 to January 30, 2024.

The wartime bill clears it first reading, and will require two more plenum votes before the end of the month to finalize.

The Knesset also advances a first reading of a bill to let National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir worsen the living conditions of terror convicts in Israeli prisons during hostilities. In line with an announcement from his office last week, Ben Gvir is seeking to rapidly increase prison capacity by housing some inmates on mattresses, instead of beds.
