Lapid: We’re grateful to Trump, but he should not interfere in our legal process

While Israelis appreciate US President Donald Trump, he should not involve himself in internal Israeli judicial issues, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid tells the Ynet news site, in the wake of the American leader’s call to cancel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing criminal trial.
“We are grateful to President Trump but as [MK] Simcha Rothman said – the president should not interfere in a legal process in an independent country,” Lapid states — adding that he assumes weighing in on Netanyahu’s legal problems is a form of “compensation” from Trump, “because he is going to bend [Netanyahu] on the Gaza issue, to end the war.”
In an overnight post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the corruption probe against Netanyahu a “politically motivated case” and said that his trial “should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State.”
