Ministry launches criminal probe over Negev acid waste spill
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Ministry of Environmental Protection opens a criminal investigation into Rotem Chemicals, the fertilizer company whose Negev facility poured tens of thousands of tons of acid waste through a nature reserve on Friday.
The investigation will also extend to Rotem’s parent company, Israel Chemicals.
Yesterday, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority said Nahal Ashalim will be closed to visitors for a year, and warned the cleanup and rehabilitation of the wadi would take years and cost tens of millions of shekels.
